Robert C. Stephens, D.M.D.

Dr. Robert Stephens is originally from Owensboro, Kentucky and joined the group in 1980. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a B.S. degree in biological sciences. He completed his dental studies at the University of Kentucky and completed his residency in pedodontics at the children’s Medical center in Dayton, Ohio in 1979.

Dr. Stephens is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Florida Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

He and his wife, Joyanne, a vice-president at Florida Atlantic University’s Broward campus have one son, Clark. He enjoys golf, swimming, basketball, fishing and travel as hobbies and recreation.

James G. Bennett, D.M.D.

Dr. James Bennett, a 1990 Cardinal Gibbons High School graduate received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina. He then received his D.M.D. Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. His residency in Pediatric Dentistry was completed at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston in Houston, Texas in 2000.

Dr. Bennett has received many awards, including a Certificate of Merit from the American Society of Dentistry for Children and the Graduate Student Research Award from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Bennett is a member of the American and Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association and the American Orthodontic Society.

Dr. Bennett presently lives in Pompano Beach with his wife Mindy, an elementary school teacher and their twins, Lorelei and Jonah.

Lauren M. Governale, D.M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Lauren Governale is a native Broward County resident graduating from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale (1976). She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida (1980), and subsequently graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry (1985). Upon graduation, she received the American Society of Dentistry for Children Award for excellence in Pediatric Dentistry.

She practiced dentistry at the Broward County Health Department exclusively providing dental treatment to children and received their Outstanding Leadership Award. Dr. Governale then received her Masters Degree in Public Health from Florida International University (1991), followed by completion of the Dental Public Health Residency Program at the University of Florida College of Dentistry (1994). Dr. Governale received a specialty certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Florida College of Dentistry graduating from their program at Miami Children’s Hospital (2000) where she received special recognition for acting as Chief Resident. Dr. Governale is currently an attending dentist at Miami Children’s Hospital and is an active participant on their craniofacial team.  Our patients requiring outpatient general anesthesia are treated by Dr. Governale at Miami Children's Hospital.

Dr. Governale and her husband, Bob Hodges have two daughters, Mary Lynn and Virginia.
