My Visit to the Dentist Personalized Coloring Book

Father and babyThe American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and our practice recommend that your child visit our office by his/her 1st birthday. The visit at this age is less clinical and more educational.  This essentially is a "well baby check" for the teeth.  At this visit, we will conduct a risk assessment by evaluating family and infant health history.  Our competent staff will review diet and nutrition and go over oral healthcare techniques with you.

Your child's first "official visit" should be around age 2 1/2 to 3.  You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and his staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less to-do concerning the visit, the better.

Visit The BumpIt is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as needle, pull, drill or hurt. The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.

On their FIRST official check-up visit, your child might be apprehensive and want you to be with him/her. If this is necessary, you may accompany your child during this first visit to see our dental facility and treatment procedures. For the safety and privacy of all patients, other children who are not being treated should remain in the reception room with a supervising adult. However, during FUTURE visits, we ask that you allow your child to accompany our competent staff through the dental experience. We are all highly experienced in helping children overcome anxiety. Separation anxiety is not uncommon in children, so please try not to be concerned if your child exhibits some negative behavior, this is normal and will soon diminish. Studies and experience have shown that most children over the age of 3 react more positively when permitted to experience the dental visit on their own and in an environment designed for children.

Please feel free to ask questions concerning your child's dental treatment at any time.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
